Catholic Music & The Spirit of Evangelization

An Ancient Tradition of Easter Music which "Opens Our Minds"
The music of the Easter season opens our minds to the Resurrection. But unlike many of our favorite hymns of Ordinary Time, a surprising number of Easter hymns are ancient in origin -- yet still favorites of young and old alike. For more on Easter hymns, click here.
What Wondrous Love: The Music of Lent
Though even the most ardent church musician may have trouble making a "top ten list" of Lenten hymns, we should listen carefully to these songs for the guidance they offer for our journey of faith. For more on the spiritual gifts of Lenten hymnody, click here.
Here I am, Lord: The Catholic Music Tradition
If you hear music when you read Samuel 3, as Samuel tells Eli, "Here I am," it's likely to the tune of Dan Schutte's 1981 "Here I am, Lord," one of the most familiar hymns in our modern Catholic music tradition. For more on contemporary Catholic hymnody and our important Catholic music heritage, click here.
Music for Advent
Of all the biblical texts, Isaiah 40, from which our first reading today is taken, may be the one that most intensely captures the spirit of Advent. For more about Isaiah and the Advent Music Tradition, click here.
